Ten Rocky Point High School students were selected to attend the Suffolk County High School Principals Association’s Compassion Without Borders leadership conference recently held at Smithtown High School East.

Thomas Amalfitano, John Henry Dyroff, Tyler Fertig, Joan Hicks, Anthony LaBella, Samantha Leversen, Isadores Luce, Jade Mitchko, Annalisse Negron and Angelina Sessa, under the leadership of adviser Ms. Jennifer Zaffino, learned to develop their social and emotional leadership skills at the conference. They listened to powerful motivational speaker Mr. Ed Gerety and participated in workshops related to leadership skills and promoting programs in the Rocky Point school community.

They brought back ways to pay it forward, which was the theme for the annual event that helps student leaders across Suffolk County advance a culture of acceptance, compassion and tolerance in their school community. They worked to spread kindness by posting inspirational quotes on lockers to encourage peers to also pay it forward.

“Rocky Point High School’s Compassion Without Borders group is challenged to implement positive programs that enhance school pride, inclusiveness and tolerance,” Ms. Zaffino said.
